Kikuji Lodge
Kikuji is one of the newest luxury lodges in the Kafue National Park. Located on the banks of the Lunga river it is the only destination on the edge of the newly designated wilderness area.
The surrounds are home to a number of woodland species such as kudu and Sable. A pack of wild dogs also calls the area home as do a number of cheetah.
Kikuji is ideal for guests interested in bird life, with sightings of Pels Fishing Owl and Ross’ Turaco likely.
A prime attraction at the lodge is a combination of boating- walking trips across the loops of the river into the wilderness area.
The lodge has four luxury cabins placed directly above the riverbank each with beautiful views up and down across the water.
Lunga River
The Lunga river is a tributary of the Kafue, flowing into it where it’s wide looping meanders finally bump up against the ridge of a low geographic dike and are funneled into the Kafue.
The river itself and the area surrounding it has largely remained untouched and unexplored ever since the National Park itself was proclaimed barely 100 years ago.
For decades this area was a favored destination for poachers, but the establishment of Kikuji Lodge has meant that the presence of guests and guides moving around has pushed the poachers away. After all one of the best forms of anti-poaching measures is the presence of conservation minded people.
Due to the area’s remote exclusivity, guests can experience untouched Africa in a way that is truly unique and still the way it was when David Livingston first walked these parts of Africa.
